Wa Regional NHIS staff receives kidney health education. The staff of the Upper West Regional office of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in Wa have been educated on kidney health. Following a successful campaign of the Kidney Health International to reach out to institutions within the region with kidney disease prevention during the world kidney month in March, more office have requested for the health education.
In response to the massive request, the programs manager, Mr. Sylvanus Gatorwu has taken advantage of the current interest in knowing about the disease and how to prevent it to extend health talks to more of such institutions.
On Monday, October 7, the staff gathered to be educated.
During the talk, participants had the opportunity to ask questions that bothered them about kidney disease and these were duly answered. In an exclusive tete-a-tete with the regional manager, Mr Samuel Lekamwe Lobber after the health talk, the manager expressed his appreciation to the KHI for such an initiative to educate Ghanaians about the condition.
Expressing his surprise at the causes of the condition which many don’t know, he reiterated to his staff senior staff who were present with him on the need to get screened every now and then to know their status.
During the talk, it also became clear that many of them didn’t know the extent to which simple health practices such as drinking enough water and keeping to a healthy weight can go a long way to prevent kidney disease.
In his talk, Mr. Gatorwu emphasized on the need to for regular check ups since the condition does not show symptoms until it is at an advanced stage by which time, very little can be done to save the life of the person suffering the condition.
Mr. Lapper was full of gratitude and requested another time with the KHI for another of such talks.
