As part of activities to activities to mark the World Diabetes Day of 2022, the Kidney Health International organized a free health screening for the people of Ejisu in the Ashanti Region.
Over 200 people, yesterday benefited from a free medical screening, the program which started around 7:30 am ended at 2:00 pm
The medical screening was conducted by a team of 11 medical experts made up of 2 doctors and 9 nurses drawn from the Kidney Specialist Centre and from our volunteers.
Attendants were screened for diabetes, hypertension, obesity and kidney disease. The aim of the screening was to identify early indicators for diabetes. Our interest of the screening stems from the fact that diabetes is globally the number one cause of kidney disease. There was intensive awareness creation through a public health talk on diabetes and kidney disease prevention before the event.
For this particular screening, volunteers visited 11 churches in the Ejisu community before the screening day.
Marilyn Azumah, who gave a health talk on diabetes during the health talk, reminded participants and the public to keep to healthy lifestyles, eat well and exercise. She reminded participants of the need to prevent diabetes by continuously checking their blood sugar every now and then.
The Programs Manager, Mr Sylvanus Gatorwu took time to educate the participants on how to prevent kidney disease.
