Assemblies of God Old Tafo Women’s Ministry receives kidney health education. The women’s ministry of the Old Tafo branch of the Assemblies of God church in Kumasi have had their share of the on going campaign of the Kidney Health International to ensure that Ghanaians get to know about their kidneys and how to prevent kidney disease.
The program which was initiated by an invitation of ministry hosted the programs manager of the KHI, Mr Sylvanus Gatorwu.
The program was given the necessary publicity that it demanded and attracted women from other branches of the church, and got the auditorium filled to capacity.
During the almost two hour program, a lot of questions were asked.
The questions mostly centered on lifestyle changes that could lead one to protecting their kidneys from any form of disease.
As their questions were being addressed, it became obvious that many of the women present didn’t know much about their kidneys. This is an observed trend in most places where the KHI has had to educate people.
The president of the ministry, Mrs Augustina Boateng was full of joy as she watched how her members contributed and received the knowledge from the talk.
The few men who were present did not hesitate to also request to have a gathering where they could also be educated.
Following the talk, many of the participants requested a screening exercise be organized so they could each have the opportunity to have their kidneys checked since per the talk they had gotten to understand that kidney disease is without symptoms until it is too late.
On his part, the programs manager kept emphasizing that the best thing anyone could do to prevent themselves from having kidney disease was to regularly check their kidneys, especially if they were at risk per the risk factors that were shown them.
And if anyone did not have any of the risk factors at all, that person must have their kidneys checked at least once a year since anyone could develop any form of kidney disease without knowing.
