Wa Methodist School for the Blind holds kidney health education. The Wa Methodist School for the Blind has held a health education program with the Kidney Health International (KHI). Haven received massive media coverage as a result of the increase in the cost of dialysis, the newly appointed principal of the school, Reverend Monica Achana thought it wise to hold a health education upon her assumption of office to educate her staff.
In response to her request, the programs manager of the KHI, Mr Sylvanus Gatorwu engaged the staff of the school.
The staff who were surprised at the information that was presented to them wanted more.
When the risk factors of kidney disease were mentioned, many of them were concerned since many of the factors mentioned were everyday lifestyle issues. Their curiosity grew as many of them kept asking “what shall we do”?
They were subsequently encouraged and urged to ensure that they were regularly checking their kidneys at least once a year, and if their risk factors were high, to do that as regular as their doctors would require.
The health talk at the Wa School for the blind is one of the talks that has given the impression that there are many people out there who need to be educated about their kidneys.
A funny but serious incident happpened when the slide on “healthy eating” was shown.
A member of staff exclaimed that he is addicted to eating so much meat that as the talk was ongoing, there was a piece of fried beef in his pocket.
This funny incident brought home the issue of how people were over indulging in certain eating practices that could become dertimental to their health in the near future.
The principal who was elated at the program took some time to encourage her staff members to ensure they were paying attention to their health all the time.
